Between 1970 and 1972, Trent worked on Capitol Hill, got married to Dick Mitchell, built a house in Columbia, elected a President and had a baby.
"Nixon's The One"As the happy couple was settling in to their new home, Trent began to search for the Republican Party in Howard County. Finding it took a quite bit of effort.Once pointed in the direction of Charlie Miller, however, she found what there was of it. Trent launched her political career in Howard County much as she had in Catonsville by running the Republican Headquarters for the 1972 election. Yes, it was another election year and the Nixon-Agnew duo was running for re-election. Perhaps we all should have anticipated the forthcoming problems when the acronym for the President's re-election campaign was "CREEP."
No -- "SAMANTHA’s the One" Trent had to abandon her post prematurely when "Samantha Jane Mitchell" decided to be born early – 7 days before the election instead of 3 days after. Apparently, she found the effort so distasteful that Samantha has never been early for anything ever again. By arriving early, however, she proved her true stripes (red, white & blue, of course) – because 18 years later, Samantha was old enough to VOTE – by 7 days!
Train 'em Young! Trent did not allow being pregnant or being a new mom to limit critical activities -- (golf and politics). Two weeks before Samantha was born, Trent won the Hobbit's Glen 9-Hole Women's Golf Tournament and when Samantha was born, she became the youngest member of the Howard County Republican Club -- and attended many fun events. (See her unbridled enthusiasm...)
